About Spring Seminar
TVQA Spring Seminar is a two to three-day workshop event featuring national and regional quilting teachers. The seminar is a biannual event and is planned by a committee and underwritten by TVQA, thereby reducing class costs to members. The workshop intends to offer TVQA members several teachers with a wide variety of expertise to provide for the many interests of those who participate. In addition to the wonderful workshops, there are one or more lunch/lectures given by guest teachers.
TVQA Spring Seminar 2024
Spring Seminar 2024 was held at MTCS in Murfreesboro, TN on May 31 and June 1. Half day classes were offered each day with a lunch/lecture session between the morning and afternoon sessions. There were 117 different people that registered for classes and the total class enrollment was 298. A total of 21 classes were offered. The classes included techniques in design, color theory, easy piecing grid, and binding. There were classes on appliqueing, free motion, vintage blocks, featherweight maintenance, and quilt patterns (some designed by the instructors). Wool applique, a quilted basket, and t-shirt quilting were also subjects covered in classes.
The instructors included Carmen Geddes, a national teacher; and four regional teachers – Candace Hassen, Judy Ballance, Kay Roberts, and Kathy Kuryla. We included four TVQA teachers or members – Chris Jehle, Diane Lowe, Cheryl Hitchcock, and Denise Dacus. The TVQA teachers gave the TVQA members an opportunity to meet these teachers and possibly use them in home guild activities.
In addition to the 14 vendor booths, there was a TVQA boutique booth which sold items donated by the TVQA guilds. All proceeds from the boutique went to the TVQA treasury fund. Class fees were $35, and lectures were $20. The lunch/lecture was $30. The boutique, the venue rental, and the caterer fee helped boost our income. When all income and expenses were balanced, the seminar was profitable.
